Indra Nooyi: Performance with Purpose
A leadership philosophy that brought the long-term future into the conversation about business performance.
By Orbira Global Editorial · October 11, 2026

Indra Nooyi served as PepsiCo’s CEO from 2006 to 2018. Her tenure is closely associated with Performance with Purpose, a strategy that connected financial performance with attention to products, people and environmental sustainability.
PepsiCo’s account of her leadership describes the expansion of its Better for You and Good for You product categories. These were the company’s portfolio labels, not an independent health assessment of every product. The strategic idea was to prepare a large consumer business for evolving expectations.
Nooyi’s contribution offers a useful question for any leader: what should a company become, not simply what should it sell next? Her approach makes the long term part of the everyday discussion. That is a constructive way to think about responsibility alongside commercial ambition.
